What Can We Learn From Our Amish Neighbors?

I think there is much that we can learn from our Amish neighbors. Many of you may not know this but there are Amish people living all over the United States. I believe in every state but Hawaii. Sixteen years ago when I left the Amish culture the Amish communities were much more limited to the eastern and midwestern states. Only a few had settled in the mountain and western states at that time. Since then there has been a massive explosion (you might say) of new communities in all states. I literally cannot keep track where some of my distant family members have moved to.

I set this blog up so people have a place to go and ask questions on the Amish culture. In the sixteen years since I left the Amish culture I have had many questions. Every where I go people want to know inside information.

The reason that some of the information is not so readily available is because they don’t like to share too much information to the general public. I was taught on what we can talk to outsiders about and what we cannot. The pride of secrecy is huge for them.

Thousands of times I have been told that I should write a book about the Amish culture. Well that has been my dream for more than sixteen years. Life just seemed to happen for me after I left, my kids came along and I kept procrastinating. Well no more, I am in the process of writing my first book, which will be available as an ebook and hopefully also in printed form later this year. I feel my true calling in life is to teach the public about the Amish culture.
